I am a Master's of Electrical Engineering with Business student, finishing in 2022.
I have completed my Bachelor of Science and Diploma of computing in 2020, also from the University of Melbourne.
In these, I have been exposed to a wide range of problems and have been tasked with finding creative solutions within constrains, which I believe should help with a placement at Optiver.

I have experience programming in C and Java, solving problems at systems and user levels.
I also have some experience with programming hardware in Verilog and VHDL.
For work, I have done some development with embedded systems, and am generally interested in the tight performance constraints there presented.
In my own time, I have played with various open server and enterprise level technologies in my own time, particularly virtualisation and containerisation.
I am also very used to working within teams on technical challenges, both at university and in the outside workspace.
Often these challenges have required me to coordinate with my teammates to research new information and work towards a solution to the task at hand.
I have found that the technical background and communication training has enabled me to approach problems from an unconventional position, often providing novel solutions.
Additionally, I have an interest in the movement of capital, beginning from family discussions and continuing to high school and university education.
I greatly enjoy reading about the latest movements of companies, particularly within the tech sector where I also have technical understanding.

I believe that a position with Optiver would offer some fantastic opportunities I would be unable to experience anywhere else.
The constraints faced from algorithmic trading fascinate me, particularly due to the emphasis placed on, and potential gain from, marginal improvements in performance.
Additionally, I think the business of proprietary trading is an interesting one, being that as it is the firm's own money being traded rather than a group of investors, the firm exposes itself to more risk creating a larger emphasis on quality trades.
The sale of derivatives to institutions seems like an interesting additional method of raising revenue, requiring a sizeable technological back end to mitigate risk.
I believe that a position with Credit Suisse would offer some fantastic opportunities I would be unable to experience anywhere else.
The size, scale and history of Credit Suisse amazes and inspires me, due to its reach and potential for impact on the world.
Being a Bulge Bracket investment bank, the scope of investments undertaken are unlike those anywhere else and have the potential to direct the course of global economics.
This provides the bank and those working within the ability to direct the world towards a better future and to make a real difference.
It is for this ability to make a difference that I want to intern with you.
